Description:

Covering an area of 2400m², directly built on a neighborhood of the Gallo-Roman city Argentomagus, the museum traces the life of the region starting back a million years ago.
Then, from the prehistoric times, this back in time machine that is the museum will take you to the Gallo-Roman times through:
- Paleolithic,
- Mesolithic,
- Neolithic,
then by the age of bronze and iron.

With many audio-visual presentations, pictures, interactive animations and games of light, you will be quietly brought to the prehistoric site.

Then, outside the museum, you will discover the Gallo-Roman town, 1800 years old, impressive in its richness:
- Streets,
- Houses,
- Temples,
- Monumental Fountain,
- Theatre
Every year the city reveals new secrets, new wealth through excavations which continue unabated.

Planning:

At least one to two hours allow you to spend an exciting time in the museum.
Then, an hour can be spent in the Gallo-Roman city.

In total (museum + outdoor place) half a day can quickly be spent.

The museum is open at the following hours:
- From September to June: Open from Wednesday to Monday from 9:30 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00.
- In July and August: Open daily, same hours.
The museum is closed from December the 24th and during the first three weeks of January.

The museum is free the first Sunday of each month.
The archaeological site is freely available throughout the year. Disclaimer : The management team of the destination has the possibility to change the opening days and hours without prior communication.

Comments:

The museum is accessible to disable persons and is labellized for the blind.

An imuportant documentation center (more than 2000 works) is open the same hours of the museum's.

Educational service of the museum organizes thematic tours such as:

- Argentomagus: the city and its monuments,
- Child in Roman Gaul,
- Everyday Life,
- Religion,
- Funeral rites,
- Games,
- Food.
Many rooms are also available for school activities.

At last, discovery classes named 'heritage' a week long are organized by county inspection of La Chatre, AD/PEP of the Indre region and the museum, where visits are managed by teachers and museum professionals.
