Swam of meteorites: the Draconides

Domaine(s) : Astronomy
Courtesy NASA/JPL-Caltech

Description:

Visible from the 6th to the 10th of October (maximum of intensity on the 8th of October), the Draconides, also called Giacobinides come from the tail of the comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner.

The Draconides are named after the constellation from which meteors appear to originate, ie the Draco constellation.

Meteorites are fairly slow (20 km/s) and often have a yellow color.

ERquatorial Coordinates :
lambda: 195.4
alpha: 262°
delta: +54°

Planning:

The observation of the Draconides is easier early morning before the morn. Disclaimer : The management team of the destination has the possibility to change the opening days and hours without prior communication.

Comments:

Draconides have already produced particularly intense rains twice before, in 1933 and 1946.
2011 should be a good year.

For photo fans, plan to bring your cameras in the shadow of the moonlight in order to get better shots.

For this event, which expects to be quite exceptional, astronomy clubs can be a good place to enjoy the sky.

In this case, contact your tourist office / Syndicate of local initiative to find out where they are located and what is possibly planned for the public.
