Some studies have shown that more than 50 species disappear every day. Since 200, or 10 years, 20% of coral reefs have been destroyed and over 6 million hectares of primary forests have disappeared. Never this type of phenomenon had reached such a magnitude, except perhaps when the dinosaurs disappeared. The phenomenon is accelerating, partly due to climate change. To date under the auspices of UNESCO, 553 sites are classified as common heritage of mankind and 107 sites are biosphere reserves. In 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro was created Convention on Biological Diversity. It has been ratified by 190 countries.
