International Year of Forests has a goal of raising awareness on sustainable management, conservation and continued development of all types of forests.The establishment of the International Year of Forests follows the Millennium Summit held in Johannesburg in 2000 and during which one has been adopted the Millennium Declaration of the UN and follows the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg in 2002 also.
Thus this year has been endorsed by the United Nations resolution 61/193 of December the 20th, 2006.

On Wednesday, September 22, 2010 was officially launched in the year of the bat by the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), the year and will coincide with the International Year of Forests and afford an angle view enhanced very particular about the preservation of woodlands.The official homepage of the United Nations for the year of the bat is available by clicking here.
