Description:

Cougnac Caves have two interests:
- The fistula vaults, these very thin stalactites that adorn the ceiling of some galleries,
- Representations of archaeological rock art.

Planning:

One to two hours allow you to pleasantly go back in the time.

The cave is open:
- From April the 5th to July the 6th: from 10:00 to 11:30 and from from 14:30 to 17:00,
- From July the 7th to August the 28th: from 10:00 to 18:00
- From August the 29th to September the 30th from 10:00 to 11:30 and from 14:30 to 17:00,
- From October the 1st to November the 4th: from 14:00 to 16:00, except the Sundays of October. Disclaimer : The management team of the destination has the possibility to change the opening days and hours without prior communication.

Comments:

Concretions and animal figures drawn there are 25,000 to 14,000 years ago are highly complementary in this environment totally different.
Thus, goats, deers and mammoths drawings enjoy this very dense forest of calcareous rods.
During the tour, you are accompanied by the sounds of percussion of the lithophones, the first prehistoric musical instruments.

The site is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Provide warm clothes: the temperature of the cave is 13°C.

Highway A20: take the exit 55 from Paris; take the exit 57 from Toulouse and Cahors.

The caves are located between Sarlat and Gourdon in the Quercy, near the D704 and about 30km from Rocamadour.
