House of the Nature in Lattes

Description:

The House of Nature opens you the doors of the protected natural site of Mejean, located at th northwest of Lake Mejean, and is a preserved area of 469 hectares.
So will be able to see:
- A stork's nest filmed live on screen TV,
- An observatory on the floor,
- Exhibitions,
- Books available on the site and the environment,
- Numerous lectures and slide shows.

You will be able to enjoy:
- The way of the white stork (restricted access),
- The way of the Pink Flamingo (see opening hours).

Planning:

Walks on trails can take two to three hours.
Visit the House of Nature can last an hour (apart from lectures and slide shows of course).

The House of Nature is open every day except on Monday and on Thursday, at the following hours:
- From September to June: from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.,
- In July and August: from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Opening Trail of the flamingo:
Open all year except 01/01, 05/01, 07/14, 12/25.
Hours during nesting periods, from Tuesday to Sunday:
- From March to June: from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.,
- In July and August: from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The trail is prohibited to dogs.
Wintering period, from September to March, the trail is daily open under regulation. Disclaimer : The management team of the destination has the possibility to change the opening days and hours without prior communication.

Comments:

The access to the site is regulated for dogs.
It is forbidden to pick the flora on the site.

Hikes are held on Saturday or Sunday every three weeks from 09:00 to 12:00 by the House of Nature on:
- Migratory birds,
- Life in lagoons,
- The local flora,
- Different seasons in the Mejean.

Animations either for groups or for schools are organized: contact the House of Nature.

The wide lagoon of the protected site of Mejean earned it to be classified as Natural Area of Interest Fauna and Flora (ZNIEFF I and II), in Special Protection Area (ZPS), and in Important Area for Bird Preservation (ZICO), and also as Natura 2000 site.

Whether you take the exit Montpellier-East or Montpellier-South of the highway A9, take the direction South, along the river Le Lez, towards Lattes.
Near the Port Ariane, continue in front of the school Georges Brassens and continue along the Avenue of the Mejean until the Nature House.
