Three models will help you to clearly understand how this industry worked.
This was the main one in Levroux for centuries.
Planning:
From one hour to one and half an hour allow you to know much better the jobs of this noble matter that the leather is.The museum is open:
- On Mondays from 10:00 to 12:30 and from 15:0018:00.
- On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 15:00 to 18:00.
- On Wednesdays and Sundays by appointment.
Groups are welcome by appointment only.
During the last week-end of October takes place the Feast of the Leather. Disclaimer : The management team of the destination has the possibility to change the opening days and hours without prior communication.
Comments:
The leather trades were the main activity of several cities in the region of Indre, such as Levroux and Issoudun.To give one example, the leather factory Naulais in Issoudun has, through its work in preparing the skins, achieved many leather goods for several generations.
Objects manufactured with this leather were clothing such as jackets, coats and shoes, but were also books or leather goods.
You will discover in the museum:
- How is operating a Parcheminerie,
- How is operating a tannery,
- Old tools and machines required to transform the skin to obtain leather or parchment,
- sewing machines,
- A craft workshop on parchment.
