The Loire River, close to Blois

Description:

Housed since 1998 in the stables of Chateauneuf-sur-Loire castle that is listed by the Monuments Historiques and that is surrounded by a landscaped garden which hosts rare species of trees, the museum presents the life on the Loire river at the Ligerienne time.

You will see the famous boats of the Loire, these flat-bottomed boats that allowed trade to be on the river where navigation is difficult because of the sandbanks along the route that are so changeable.

The museum presents the Loire in several respects:
- History,
- Techniques,
- Sociology,
- Art

Temporary exhibitions and events provide a very interesting dynamic in the museum.

It has a shop, a documentation center open to the public by appointment, and an audio-visual room.

Planning:

The muséeum is open all year around, except on Tuesdays, on Januaray te 1st, on May the 1st and on December the 25th.
It is open:
- from April the 1st to October the 31st from 10:00 to 18:00
- from November the 1st to March the 31st from 14:00 to 18:00.

Comments:

The Loire was from antiquity to the 19th century the busiest waterway in France.

It is now extremely difficult to pass even a barge as machines that were used to retrieve the sand from the bottom of the river for the construction industry no longer continue to maintain the river since it was registered as World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO for its wild ecosystem.

The museum offers:
- For individuals, guided tours on weekends in July and August,
- For groups, under reservation, a tour of the museum and a discovery visit (museum and port).

For schools and recreation centers, under reservation, educational workshops, games and visits

For children, the museum organizes:
- Educational workshops, under reservation, for 6 to 12 years old children, on Wednesdays during school holidays,
