Description:

275m long, 49m high, built in the 1st century AD, the bridge of the Gard has three levels and served as an aqueduct to go over the Gardon river and thus bring water from Uzes to Nimes, that is to say from a distance of about 50km away.

It is the highest aqueduct in the Roman world.

In addition to the bridge, you can visit the 2500m? museum with its exhibition focused on three themes:
- The Gallo-Roman civilisation of the city and the water, via a multimedia show,
- The construction of the work of art, the aqueduct and the bridge, that presents the aqueducts of the Roman world (you will enjoy the lighting map), that explains the construction of the aqueduct and describes the course of the aqueduct of Nimes,
- The bridge of the Gard through the centuries and its models, which take you in three galleries, scientists, engineers, and architects ones.

Planning:

Plan about 3 hours if you want to see everything.

The place is open to the public all the year.
For your visit of the bridge, of the cultural center or of the path of the Memory of the Garrigue, protected park areas are set-up both sides of the river.

- at 19h00 in June and September,
- at 20h00 inJuly and August,
- at 17h00 from November to February,

Comments:

The full site is accessible to disabled persons.
Wheelchairs are available at the reception desks.

The place has also a 'Baby changing' point.
Entrance fees are for all the site : the bridge, theMuseum of the Pont du Gard, the children area 'Ludo',the path "Memories of the Garrigue", temporary exhibitions, special events, light shows the evening on Summer,the secured beach in July and August, car park, ...

The Pont du Gard is located at 27km from Nimes and at 21km away from Avignon, between Remoulins (RN 100) and Vers-Pont du Gard (D 81).
- From Uzes, take the direction of Saint-Maximin then go towards Vers (D981);
- From Nimes, take the direction of Remoulins (A9 or N86) and then the D981 towards Vers;
- From the highway A9: Take exit 23 at Remoulins, direction Uzes, then follow the signs right side or left one of the river.
The Pont du Gard is located between Remoulins (N100) and Vers-Pont-du-Gard (D81).
The following bus lines allow you to access it:
- Line B21: from Nimes,
- Line A15: from Avignon and Ales
