The Cave of the Stone House

At first, the site's history and men who worked in the thirteenth century in the heart of the lava flow from Volcano Nugere is told.
Then, by a one hour original show you walk in the staged footsteps of one of the greatests carriers of the years 1900, Jean-Chevalier Legay. Jules Cotte, his loyal foreman tells you the story of this fascinating character.
Through four unusual spaces, discover the human adventure related to the Stone of Volvic. Experience the life of the quarry, pierce the secrecy of the Source of Volvic and immerse yourself in the ancient history of this gallery.
You'll dive in four remarkable scenic areas:
- Presentation and staging of a stone-pit,
- Geological History of this cave and discovery of the water,
- Uses of Volvic stone: industrial, artistic and architectural uses (the cathedral of Clermont-Ferrand has stone of Volvic),
- Daily Life in the city of Volvic.

After this journey into the past, discover the Exhibit Hall featuring the work of the today's artisans.
You will then share a privileged moment of exchange with a facilitator who will answer all your questions.


In an hour you will have learned many things on the stone of Volvic and about the local life.

The last entry is one hour before closure.

Departures of tours are every 15 minutes in groups of 25 people. Disclaimer : The management team of the destination has the possibility to change the opening days and hours without prior communication.


At the end of the tour you will be able to see the completion of enamel artisans and sculptors who pay homage to the stone through their various achievements.

Bring warm clothes (the temperature of the cave is 10°C).
The site is accessible to disable persons (including rest rooms).

Do not miss:
For groups, try the enameling work, facilitated by an artisan. Duration : 2 hours for adults and 1h15 for school, each participant will make up his own ceramic lava.
Only under reservation. (Reservation can be done at the Stone House or at the Lemptegy Volcano).
