The Metal Space

Description:

The Metal Space presents the universe of metal through many exhibitions.

The coal market has been registered in the list of the historical monuments in 1999.

Since then, this place has been renovated and dedicated to the discovery of the history of iron.

The activities are shown in the permanent exhibition spaces, 600m² and 300m² wide:
- You start with a small train that takes you back to the beginning of the industrial revolution in the early 19th century;
- The story of George Dufaud will then be told;
- Many experiments are available throughout the visit, as well as numerous presentations of the journalist Jamy Gourmaud;
- Finally, a screening room with 50 seats ends your visit with a film abour the metal recycling processus.

Comments:

Georges Dufaud became interested very quickly to the British steel industry methods and especially the Welsh ones as indeed he stayed in Crawshay ironmasters at Cyfarthfa Wales.
In 1821, he began the construction of the Fourchambault plant which will be one of the largest in the industrial revolution.
Later, parts of the Eiffel Tower were built there.

The Metal Centre provides artists (musicians, sculptors, painters) recreation, repetition and innovation spaces.

A course for school groups is set-up around the theme of the Industrial Revolution.

Tourism and Disability: An elevator allows disable persons to access to the first floor. The same goes to the restroom and to the movie theater that are also designed to accommodate people in wheelchairs.
