To look at the sun directly is dangerous and can make people blind.The best solution to enjoy such an event is either to use solar glasses that are made for solar eclipses or to use a projection box put in the astronomical instrument as show the pictures in this page.
To make such a box is very easy: take a box of shoes and replace a side per a paper.
