 International Year of Forests has a goal of raising awareness on sustainable management, conservation and continued development of all types of forests. The establishment of the International Year of Forests follows the Millennium Summit held in Johannesburg in 2000 and during which one has been adopted the Millennium Declaration of the UN and follows the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in Johannesburg in 2002 also.
