Swam of meteorites: the Virginides

      France
Genius Tour Search Engine:

Like other swarms of meteors located near the ecliptic, the Virginids have many successive radiant.
This is probably a very old swarm divided into several areas more or less rich in dust, presumably because of gravitational perturbations done by the planets.
The number of Virginids is never very high (average of 5 meteors per hour).
However, they are often bright, sometimes until magnitude -4, that sometimes leave noticeable beautiful trails for several seconds or even minutes with binoculars.

This swarm is visible from January to April, with a maximum in late March.
In 2014 for example, the activity is between January the 25th and April the 15th. Maximum is on March the 25th.
